In Renaissance London, struggling playwrights Nick and Nigel Bottom try to outshine Shakespeare after a soothsayer predicts that musicals are the future. Nick’s misguided plan leads to the ridiculous “Omelette: The Musical,” while Nigel writes a heartfelt work that Shakespeare tries to steal. After their show collapses and they’re nearly punished, the brothers are banished to America, where they start fresh and create the first American musical.
